Reprinted from a TDK press release:

TDK introduces IndiCAPTURE, an easy-to-use video-to-computer transfer device that gives customers the power to preserve and share their important footage in full DVD quality. IndiCAPTURE enables transferring footage to a PC from virtually any source device (such as a camcorder) with an analog video output. Simply connect your IndiCAPTURE device to your PC, partner it with a TDK Indi DVD burner, and create personalized DVD and CDs to share with friends and family.

Designed for unmatched results and incredible ease of use, IndiCAPTURE utilizes a plug-and-play USB 2.0 connection with the PC and features seamless integration with ArcSoft ShowBiz video capturing, editing and recording software (included). With real-time, hardware-based MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 video encoding, IndiCAPTURE saves time and conserves 75% more hard drive space than systems that capture to DV or AVI formats.

Nick Ikeya, Executive Director of TDK Hardware Product Management, pointed out: “More and more customers want to get involved in computer video editing, but don’t have a DV camcorder or computer with a compatible digital connection and video card. IndiCAPTURE solves the problem — it’s a solution that enables anyone with a conventional analog camcorder or VCR to easily transfer their footage into their PC, and harness the power of their computer to create great-looking movies with that professional, ‘finished’ look.”

IndiCAPTURE Turns A Computer Into A Complete Video Studio
IndiCAPTURE includes everything needed to turn a PC into a powerful and versatile video editing studio. IndiCAPTURE connects to a PC’s USB 2.0 port (It can be connected to a USB 1.1 port, but capturing will be limited to VCD quality). It features two sets of composite video and stereo audio inputs, enabling two video sources to be connected at the same time. There’s also an S-Video input, which delivers the highest quality from any source with an S-Video output. The unit is supplied with ArcSoft ShowBiz video capturing, editing and recording software, a USB 2.0 cable, an A/V cable, an AC adapter and a detailed user’s guide.

The TDK IndiCAPTURE includes a high-speed internal processor that operates in conjunction with the included software. Featuring hardware-based encoding, IndiCAPTURE is able to capture footage (with stereo audio) while simultaneously converting it to DVD quality MPEG-2 or MPEG-1 digital video. Because IndiCAPTURE (rather than the computer) handles the digital conversion, valuable hard drive space, memory, CPU power and the customer’s time are conserved.

But that’s only the beginning. Once the digital video has been saved, customers can use the straightforward ArcSoft ShowBiz software to assemble their creations. They can relax while auto scene detection logically splits the footage, or can take total control. Video clips, still images, audio, text, effects and transitions can be easily dragged and dropped into the layout for stunning results. The video’s original audio and two more tracks, such as sound effects and a soundtrack can be included. Customers can even combine video and still images in the same project. Best of all, videos can be recorded directly to DVD or CD (requires DVD or CD burner), or can easily be saved as compressed files suitable for sharing through email or over the Internet.

The TDK IndiCAPTURE (Model number VC-2600UE) is currently available at an estimated street price of $179.99.
