NewTech Infosystems, Inc. (NTI), developer of the industry’s most robust CD/DVD burning software, announced today that it has added two key features – Dynamic Drive Support and Live Update – to its CD- and DVD-Maker products. Unveiled at CeBIT, Hall 20; Booth C11, the new features can be used to ensure that the NTI software is compatible with any CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, or DVD-RW drive and that it is fully optimized for the drive. The new features are also being added to NTI’s backup and disaster recovery products.
“Dynamic Drive Support was initially developed as a part of our agreement with RealNetworks to provide them with CD burning technology that supports RealNetworks RealOne Player and the broadest range of CD writers,” explained Bill Yao, President and CEO of NTI. “To ensure compatibility, we developed a dynamic means of confirming software support for any CD or DVD burner device regardless of the manufacturer, the age of the device or its write speed. After the RealNetworks user downloads the CD burning engine, Dynamic Drive Support automatically checks the device attributes to ensure that the user will be able to accurately burn audio and video content.”
Dynamic Drive Support enables DVD-Maker and NTI’s new backup and disaster recovery software to confirm support for any CD-RW and Recordable DVD drives, even if the device isn’t registered in NTI’s extensive drive support database. Once the device is registered in the database, the Live Update feature automatically optimizes the disc burning, backup and disaster recovery software to complement the device.
“There are about 2,000 different models of CD and DVD burners in use around the globe today,” Yao noted. “Because RealNetworks has such a huge user base, they provided us with an excellent test environment for Dynamic Drive Support.” RealNetworks reports that CD/DVD burner compatibility problems have been minimal. Complementing Dynamic Drive Support, the Live Update feature has been added to the family of NTI software products. It allows NTI users to access the regularly updated drive support database and quickly resolve compatibility issues.
Benefits to OEMs: Dynamic Drive Support and Live Update features will enable OEMs to move effortlessly from one generation of CD or DVD burner to the next without being forced to phase in a new software version or replicate new software CDs. As a result, OEMs will be able to quickly and easily add new drive sources and versions while still fully supporting existing customers.
