Samsung Shows New Duo Cam

From Samsung press release

Las Vegas, NV — Samsung Electronics America, Inc., is shaking up the world of digital imaging and motion
video, by announcing the innovative Duo Cam SCD-5000, a single advanced camcorder that combines the
best of both worlds. It utilizes two dedicated lenses to deliver no-compromise performance and
convenience. The SCD-5000 has a 680K Mini DV system for digital video and a 4.1 megapixel Schneider
optics lens for still photography that can be stored on memory stick. The DuoCam SCD-5000 is on display
at Samsung booth (# 12016 Central Hall LVCC) during the Consumer Electronics Show, January 9th – 12th,
2003.

“The SCD-5000 is the perfect device for consumers seeking both performance and convenience in digital
imaging. No longer will they have to worry about fumbling between two cameras or having to carry them
both. The Duo-cam’s dual lens design delivers enough performance to satisfy the most demanding camera
enthusiasts says, JR deSouza, Marketing Manager of Digital Video, Samsung Electronics America. “Its
convenience provides a solution to parents who want to spend their time enjoying the moment, not trying
to capture it.”

As a Mini DV digital video camcorder, the DuoCam SCD-5000 stands out. Its 680,000 pixel CCD and lens
system delivers high fidelity video, and a 10x optical zoom and 800x digital zoom offers precision control
over what’s being filmed. But the DuoCam is not just a video star, it’s also a top-flight digital still camera,
with a 4.13 megapixel CCD resolution, 3X optical and 6x digital zoom, built-in auto flash, and Schneider
Optics.

A two-inch Optimum Vision LCD screen built into the DuoCam SCD-5000 makes shooting and playback a
breeze, and there’s also a color viewfinder. The DuoCam SCD-5000 also stars when the stars are out,
utilizing Samsung’s Nite Pix and Power Nite Pix technology for capturing low-light video.

The camera is as versatile as it is powerful. A slot for Memory Stick simplifies the transferring process
between camera and computers. The DuoCam SCD-5000 also supports MPEG4 video clip recording onto
Memory Stick. There are also USB and IEEE1394 ports for fast data transfer between the camera and a PC
or Mac. A simple to use EZ Dial Navigator makes accessing all of the device’s features a breeze.

The DuoCam SCD-5000 (MSRP $1399.99) will be available in May.
