SINGAPORE, CommunicAsia 2002 (Jun. 20, 2002) — Pinnacle Systems, Inc. has entered into a development partnership with PacketVideo to integrate standards-compliant MPEG-4 encoding capability into Pinnacle’s StreamFactory family of encoders. The expanded offering enables StreamFactory to produce live and Video-on-Demand content for the commercial launch of mobilemedia services. PacketVideo’s MPEG-4 complements the RealNetworks, Microsoft Windows Media and optional Sorenson Media QuickTime for Windows formats available today on StreamFactory.

“The MPEG-4 standard is quickly emerging as a compelling streaming video format for mobile media,” said Ron Nydam, Pinnacle Systems Broadband Business Manager. “By adding MPEG-4 encoding to StreamFactory, we are providing wireless service companies with a flexible, mixed-format, mission-critical encoding solution that meets both wired and wireless audio and video delivery requirements. We are pleased to partner with PacketVideo-a pioneer with in-depth understanding of the unique challenges presented by the delivery of media to mobile devices.”

StreamFactory products will implement support for MPEG-4 encoding in the same StreamFactory HTML interface whose flexibility, ease-of-use and remote management capability have made it the choice of enterprise and carrier-class operations worldwide. StreamFactory’s MultiStream functionality enables it to encode up to four simultaneous streams in any combination of MPEG-4, Real, Windows Media, and QuickTime formats.

MPEG-4/PacketVideo-enabled StreamFactory systems and upgrades for existing customers are available through Pinnacle’s worldwide network of Broadband Solutions resellers starting this July.
