Pricing Announced for the Sony a7s

Sony announced that its buzzworthy Sony a7s will be available in July at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $2499.99. Several retailers are already accepting pre-orders. It’s a high price point for a small package mirrorless camera, but when weighed against the camera’s capabilities it’s an amazing value.

Sony a7s Full Frame Mirrorless Camera

The Sony a7s debuted at this year’s NAB Show. It follows the cutting edge trend of DSLR cameras being capable of 4K video production. The Sony a7s shoots full frame HD video at frame rates up to 120fps. The use of HDMI output makes the camera capable of capturing 4K video. 4K capabilities are nice, but that’s not what makes this camera astounding. The Sony a7s is incredibly sensitive and able to capture video footage with an ISO of 409,600. It’s able to record video in candlelight. The high ISO sensitivity allows the camera to operate with a high shutter speed in low light, making it well suited for shooting sports and other action intensive activities. The accompanying video shows off the camera’s incredible range, something not found in cameras this size. The Sony a7s shoots video in XAVC, giving it a leg up over cameras that record in h264. It utilizes Sony’s alpha series lenses. The Sony a7s looks to be more than “just another” video capable still shooter, but an innovative camera system with some unique features for videographers.
