Tony – one more thought – The XA10 recommended above is a fine small-sensor camcorder, but if you want a more cinematic look to match your D5100, you might want to think about a £1435.98 Blackmagic Cinema Camera (lowest eBay UK price – it is £1589 on Amazon) – combined with a £98 Canon EF 40mm f2.8 lens. You would also need SSD drives for storage and an external battery to get started.
It will take more work than a traditional camcorder, especially if you shoot RAW, but the results can be worth it.
