I have a rode shotgun mike and a zoom H2 and use both, the shot gun style mike can be used if you are distant from your subject and want to eliminate outside sounds base on the narrow width of the shotgun mikes range, while the zoom can be attached tothe camera with a wider range of pickup, plus you can use it as an independent feld recorder to pick up foley , outside sounds you might need for your productions
