I'm sorry to say that in that price range, you're not going to get much more than a high-end consumer camcorder that won't be good for much more than shooting home video, which it sounds like you want to avoid. If you can spend a little more, you can get a Panasonic GH3 for about $1200. You would then need to acquire a lens for it. But you can get a Panasonic Lumix 14-42mm lens for about $165. I use a GH2 with this lens, and it is adequate for what I do. The GH3 is obviously a step up from the GH2, and would work very well for you. What will you be shooting?
