If you are willing to spend that kind of money, I would recommend still getting an HDV camera, particularly the sony Z1u or FX1.. my reasoning…they are great cameras, HDV looks amazing compared to dv on an Hidef monitor, especially in the details. You will be lighting well I assume since you control your environment when shooting model pieces. And most importantly, you can shoot in HDV, but still edit and export in dv just as easily. and when the tech comes around, you can reexport in hdv, and it’ll look that much better. Just my opinion, otherwise get a pro dv cam like the panasonic agdvc200p or sony 250 with the larger chips and higher lines of res (800 vertical) than prosumer models.
