I shoot with a VG10, the DOF ate my lunch and I wound up with a lot of soft focus shots at first with it. The firmware update with peaking helped quite a bit but I went with a Sony external field monitor and I don’t shoot without it ever. I’m kind of blind without it, so I know how you feel.
