I know of two options for a boom pole. You can go to a place like B&H and get a professional quality boom pole which probably can have the microphone cable run through the shaft and is very light weight and designed to be a boom pole. This can be rather expensive.
Or, you could do what I did, and go buy a light-bulb changer (I got one with a suction cup attachment that I’ve modified to accept a screw-on shock mount). This is pretty inexpensive (About 30-35 dollars) and you could always use something like a painter’s pole (just try and get one with a twist lock shaft so you don’t have to extend it to the full length). Of course, the downside is that it’s not quite as light weight and not really designed to be a boom pole, but I think it works pretty well.
