Hi Stubaw – I would avoid the A5100 – even with an external recorder. It is a 30 minute camera with no external mic jack.

If you can stretch your budget by $95, you might want to consider the 4K JVC GY-HM170 for $1595 from Adorama (with a free XLR top handle/adapter): http://adorama.evyy.net/c/60286/51926/1036?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adorama.com%2Fjvgyhm170.html

Unlike the Sony CX900 (or even the AX100), this is a pro camcorder with pro mic inputs, dual card slots, a standard cold shoe and fully adjustable color control.

Here is what this camera can do:

These next two examples were shot with the HM200 (essentially the same camera):

Here is a nice HM200 review from Rick Young at Movie Machine (again, the HM200 is exactly the same as the HM170 with the top handle, with the addition of live streaming and an SDI output connection):

I have shot with the HM170’s large sensor/interchangeable lens stable-mate, the $3495 (on sale, body-only) LS300, and they are both terrific, easy-to-use, pro camcorders.

Hope this is helpful and good luck with capturing high quality audio and video recordings of your concerts!
