Hi saint k – this is NOT a stupid question. Matching input and output can sometimes be the hardest thing to figure out in this business. Sadly, the XLR jack on your UM-1 will not fit directly into the 3.5mm mic input jack on the H2. Why not get a $163.50 Tascam DR-40 instead of the H2? Costs less than the $199 H2n, and has XLR inputs, so you won’t need an adapter or mixer. It also has phantom power for unpowered mics, which could be useful in the future. I paid $169 for the DR-40, and it is a great value for money.
Good luck!
