Editing video that isn’t fame-accurate (MPEG-2, MPEG-4) will be a bear for a while. There are a handful of companies offering support, but the verdict remains that it’ll be pretty intensive on the ‘ol computer.
We’ve heard of folks who are changing formats to edit. Those who shoot using the AVCHD or HDV format can export their clips in a frame-accurate format like Motion JPEG and DVCPRO-HD. These formats should be less intensive to edit with.
