Canon GL2, with some exceptions, may be your best approach. Used units have been seen going for as little as $1,100 on forum for sale posts and ebay, etc. Worth looking into. This camera is SD and will shoot wide screen for you if you desire – no XLR inputs, but an adapter is available.
Low light is not all that and a bag of chips, but if you avoid auto settings and adjust without pumping up the gain too much, the actual lighting conditions (unless you’re in a cave with NO light and the only source is the power lights on the amps) often translate better onscreen when too much gain has not been applied. After all, it is the effect, and if you watch much live action band events, bars, nightclubs, dance raves or whatever, it is what it is – certainly not intended to be daylight or spotlight as most of these guys/gals seem to like lurking in the dark. 🙂
