Both MOV and MP4 are very common video formats. You can play them anywhere.
But if you have M4V format which is a proprietary format, then you have to use s special software to convert M4V to MP4, MOV by using a DRmare M4V converter before you can play the videos anywhere.
I have tried many tools in the market. This seems the easiest I found to enjoy iTunes movies.
