Pentax is adding the 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW to it K-mount series. It’s a full-frame lens with an SDM ultrasonic autofocus motor and ghosting/flare prevention.
Looking inside the lens
The 50mm f/1.4 consists of 15 elements in 9 groups with 1 aspherical element. There are nine rounded aperture blades, and the lens’s f-stop range runs from f/1.4 to f/16. It also features a minimum focusing distance of 1.3 feet and its front threading accepts 72mm filters.
And as said previously, the lens has an SDM ultrasonic autofocus motor which it should help smooth and speedy autofocus according to B&H. The lens uses an electromagnetic diaphragm and is fully compatible with the K-1, K-1 Mark II, K-3, K-3 II, KP, K-70, K-S2 and K-S1.
The lens is also sealed to keep out dust and moisture and weighs 910 grams, or 2 pounds.
Reduced flare and ghosting with weather protection
Pentax has included a few coatings on the 50mm f/1.4 to reduce ghosting and flare. And those aren’t all the coatings this lens has. It also uses Aero Bright II coatings in tandem and SP coatings on the front lens element to help repel dust and water.
