Wireless Micro is RØDE’s smallest-ever wireless mic system

RØDE has launched its latest wireless microphone system for smartphone content creators. The company says that the new RØDE Wireless Micro is also its smallest and simplest wireless mic yet.

Dual-channel

The RØDE Wireless Micro system comes with two ultra-compact transmitters with built-in microphones. These ultra-lightweight units weigh around 0.42 ounces (12 g) each.  The Wireless Micro system also includes a single slimline receiver. The rechargeable batteries in the transmitters and receiver each last up to seven hours. In addition, the three components are supplied in a charging case. This provides up to two full recharges for up to 21 total hours of battery life for the Wireless Micro system.

Transmitters

The RØDE Wireless Micro transmitters feature built-in microphones housed in acoustic chambers. This patent-pending design is purpose-built to capture clear and intelligible audio while mitigating wind noise. In addition, you get two furry windshields for the built-in mics. The Wireless Micro system is also automatically paired straight out of the box, so you are ready to start recording. All you have to do is attach the transmitters to your subjects with the integrated clips or magnetic mounts.

Receiver

The RØDE Wireless Micro receiver connects directly to your phone without the need for a cable, so you have a compact and tidy recording setup. It’s also available with a USB-C or Lightning connection so it will work with most smartphones.

RØDE claims that the Wireless Micro system has a maximum transmission range of over 328 feet (100 meters) though in practice this may be less.

Other features

RØDE says that the Wireless Micro transmitters have a splashproof design so they can handle inclement weather. The system also features RØDE’s intelligent GainAssist technology. This automatically controls volume levels on-the-fly, so you don’t need to worry about ruining a take with clipped or quiet recordings.

In addition, the Wireless Micro system is available in either black or white.

RØDE Capture app

RØDE Capture is an easy-to-use iOS video app for creating content. You get direct in-app control of compatible RØDE microphones for capturing professional audio. There’s also a unique dual camera mode for recording split screen or picture-in-picture with the front and selfie cameras simultaneously. Unfortunately for Android shooters, it’s iOS only.

What we think

The RØDE Wireless Micro is an ideal lightweight wireless microphone system for content creators who use a smartphone. With the automatic pairing of the transmitters and the receiver, it’s also super easy to use. Simply clip the mics to your subjects, the receiver to your phone and you are ready to shoot. It’s important to note that this is a mic-only system, so there’s no onboard recording as a backup if the wireless signal drops out. In addition, you can’t plug external lavalier mics into the transmitters. However, the Wireless Micro isn’t intended for users who need those features. With its low price, the Rode Wireless Micro could be the perfect solution for creating high-quality smartphone content.

Pricing and availability

The RØDE Wireless Micro wireless microphone system is set to sell for $149. RØDE says that it is expected to ship on December 13, 2024.
