Viltrox launches new ultra-bright DC-A1 7-inch camera monitor

Viltrox has launched a new seven-inch camera monitor with an ultra-bright screen. The Viltrox DC-A1 monitor has a 2,800-nit display, which should make it easy to see even outdoors.

Ultra-bright

The new Viltrox DC-A1 monitor has a seven-inch IPS touch screen with a maximum brightness of 2,800 nits. Viltrox says that the high-brightness display gives you unparalleled visibility even in intense sunlight or complex lighting environments. The monitor also has a full HD 1,920 by 1,080 panel with a wide 170-degree viewing angle.

It features a contrast ratio of 1000:1 with a 60 Hz refresh rate. The Viltrox DC-A1 monitor is an eight-bit monitor, but still delivers 100% of the sRGB/Rec.709 color space.

Monitoring tools

The Viltrox DC-A1 features a comprehensive range of monitoring tools to help ensure your videos are correctly exposed and in focus. These include false color, waveform monitoring and zebra patterns. You also get focus peaking and the option to select a freeze frame. Also, you can import up to twenty custom LUTs to accurately monitor your log video on location.

Build

The Viltrox DC-A1 monitor weighs just 12.3 ounces (348 g), so it won’t make your camera setup too heavy. Using the touchscreen, you can easily adjust settings such as brightness and contrast or access the shooting assist options. You also get four customizable shortcut buttons on the top of the monitor. Plus, the DC-A1 comes with a quick-release sun hood that snaps on and off. The monitor features active cooling with what Viltrox says is an ultra-silent fan and two large cooling vents.

Inputs and outputs

The Viltrox DC-A1 has both an HMDI in and HDMI out port and supports 4K 60 Hz input and loop out. You also get a headphone socket for monitoring your audio.

There are USB-C and DC inputs along with a USB interface. There are 14-inch screw threads on the base and the side of the monitoring for versatile mounting options.

Power

You can power the Viltrox DC-A1 via the NP-F series battery plate on the back of the monitor. It also has a dedicated DC input for use with a DC power supply. Additionally, the DC-A1 supports power delivery via the USB-C port.

What we think

Most video creators will have spent at least some time shooting outdoors with a coat or jacket over their head, trying to see their monitor on a sunny day. With its ultra-bright 2,800 nits display, the Viltrox DC-A1 should make those moments a thing of the past. You also get all the on-screen tools you need to set your exposure correctly and hit focus every time as well. In addition, the versatile range of power options means that you can fit the monitor into most camera setups. If you are looking to get a new on-camera monitor, the Viltrox DC-A1 is a great choice.

Pricing and availability

The Viltrox DC-A1 camera monitor is available now and costs $278. You get a number of accessories with the monitor, including the sun hood and a custom pan-and-tilt head. It also includes an NP-F 550 battery, a custom screen protector, and a range of cables, along with a portable carrying case.
