Tilta upgrades Khronos ecosystem for the iPhone 16

Tilta has announced a new version of its Khronos ecosystem for filmmakers using the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. The company says the new system offers a comprehensive upgrade on the iPhone 15 version of Khronos.

Khronos

Tilta first launched its Khronos cage and accessory range for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max last year. Now the company has released an updated and improved version for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.

The base of the system is the protective aluminum alloy case with tool-free installation. This also features an integrated silicon liner and an enhanced anti-slip silicon pad to protect your phone.

New features

The Khronos cage for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max features a capacitive camera control button on the side. Tilta says that this gives you the full range of native camera controls as on a bare iPhone, rather than the simple cut-out that other cases offer.

You can also now choose between new orange, forest green and black color options as well as space grey and titanium white. In addition, the iPhone 16 Pro cage weighs only 2 ounces (58.5 g), which is 15% lower than the previous model.

Accessories

The versatility of the Khronos system comes from the wide range of quick-release accessories you can attach to the cage. These include a cooling fan, a USB-C hub and a mini LED panel. Even better, the accessories are powered through the circuitry built into the cage with no need for external cables. You can also add a magnetic filter tray to hold neutral density filters. In addition, the Khronos Focus PD Handle has a built-in 5000mHh battery and can control zoom and focus in the Blackmagic Camera app.

What we think

The Tilta Khronos ecosystem was a great add-on for anyone shooting video with last year’s iPhone models. Now, with Khronos for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, the system has gotten even better. Everyone will appreciate the lighter case design on a long shooting day. In addition, the capacitive camera button is also a nice touch. The changes are evolutionary rather than revolutionary. However, Tilta got so much right with the previous generation of Khronos there wasn’t a lot of improvement needed. If you use your iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max for video filming, the Khronos ecosystem is worth considering.

Pricing and availability

The new Tilta Khronos system for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max is available to pre-order now with shipping expected in the next few weeks. Several of the components are also currently available with a 10% discount. This means the base cage is $116 instead of $129. In addition, the Ultimate Kit, which includes the Focus PD handle, cooling fan, ND filters, and USB-C hub is only $449, saving $50.
