This month, ZHIYUN, a Chinese company known for developing gimbals for cameras and phones, unveiled the SMOOTH-Q3 smartphone gimbal.
Coming straight from the SMOOTH Q series, the three-axis SMOOTH-Q3 enhances the line’s lighting feature and smart templates, along with an improved button layout and design. Let’s take a closer look at all that the gimbal has to offer.
A phone gimbal with a fill light
The SMOOTH-Q3 phone gimbal features a 4,300k integrated fill light. It offers three levels of brightness and touch control for 180° front and rear lighting. The light makes it easier to capture clear portraits in low-light settings.
The SMOOTH-Q3 is a light, but strong phone gimbal
Overall, the SMOOTH-Q3 is lighter and easier to fold than the previous models. The gimbal measures 180 x 154 x 45 mm and weighs 340 grams. Its maximum payload is higher as well, now maxing out at 280 grams. For context, the SMOOTH-Q2’s max payload is 260 grams — meaning there is a difference of 20 grams between the models.
Additional features
Other new features the new SMOOTH-Q3 phone gimbal offers include gesture control, SmartFollow 3.0 Object Tracking, 17 SmartMode built-in templates, an instant Dolly Zoom and MagicClone Pano. To use the MagicClone Pano, all you have to do is press a single trigger button to mark a target and turn on smart following.

According to ZHIYUN, the new button layout allows for smoother operation. In a press release, ZHIYUN noted that “triple tapping the trigger switching between portrait and landscape modes could not be easier, while ultra-wide-angle shooting means that vast landscapes are just as easy to capture as low-angle shots.”
