This is the world’s first ever 1TB microSD card

SanDisk has just unveiled a 1TB microSD card as part of its Extreme microSD line. This is the only microSD card with that kind of storage space.

This microSD can gift your interchangeable-lens camera, drone, action camera, and even your Android phone with 1TB of storage. That is a lot of storage for a card that is about the size of the tip of your pinky finger. Now, these things don’t come cheap. SanDisk is selling these cards for $450.

Let’s take a look at the 1TB microSD card’s performance

The 1TB version of SanDisk’s Extreme microSD line promises read speeds up to 90MB/s and write speeds up to 60MB/s. Now, while this is the largest microSD card the company has ever made, it plans to release an even faster 1TB Extreme Pro card in the future. They claim the hard will run at 170MB/s read and 90MB/s write speeds

Obviously, the card can store up to 1TB of memory, but it can also support 4K Ultra HD and Full HD video recording and playback.

Durability

SanDisk says this card is built for extreme conditions. It’s built to be temperature proof, water proof, shock proof, and x-ray proof. With 1TB of storage, durability is very important for such a small card. Imagine losing that amount of data on a card that just wasn’t built to handle the condition you were shooting in.

Pricing and availability

You can buy the 1TB microSD version of SanDisk’s Extreme microSD right now for the price of $449. It’s crazy to think that just a few years ago a 1TB microSD seemed like just a dream. Now, it is a reality that you can go and buy.
