The new DZOFILM Arcana lenses deliver a 2X anamorphic look from 1.5X squeeze

DZOFILM has announced a new family of anamorphic prime lenses for full-frame cameras. The company says the Arcana lenses have a 1.5X squeeze factor but deliver a 2X anamorphic look. They’re only available with a PL mount at launch, though adapters open them up to other systems.

Focal lengths

The Arcana series launches with three focal lengths: 32 mm, 45 mm and 75 mm. All three are built from aluminum alloy to keep weight down. The 45 mm is the lightest at 24.5 ounces (695 g). The 32 mm and 75 mm aren’t far behind, both landing at 25 ounces (709 g).

Each lens covers a 43.3 mm image circle, compatible with sensors up to 36 mm by 24 mm.

Anamorphic characteristics

The Arcana primes carry a 1.5X squeeze, but DZOFILM built them around a custom elliptical aperture. The result, the company says, is the “waterfall bokeh characteristic of 2X anamorphic” without the bulk that usually comes with it. A front-cylindrical optical structure also minimizes anamorphic “mumps” and delivers consistent squeeze from close focus to infinity.

DZOFILM describes the lens flares as “organic and unpredictable,” with “horizontal streaks shifting through a spectrum of colors depending on light angle and intensity.”

Optical design

The 32mm and 45mm Arcana primes use 15 lens elements in 13 groups. The 75mm shifts to 15 elements in 11 groups. Close focus ranges from 1.6 feet (0.48 meters) on the 32mm to 2.6 feet (0.78 meters) on the 75mm. All three open up to T2.1 with 14 iris blades.

Build

Each Arcana prime uses standard 0.8 pitch gear rings for aperture and focus control, positioned consistently across the series. That means you can swap focal lengths without repositioning your follow focus. Focus throw is 270 degrees across the board.

The three lenses also share uniform dimensions, so a swap won’t throw off your gimbal balance. All three carry an 80 mm front diameter and a 77 mm screw-in filter thread.

What we think

Lenses with a true 2X squeeze deliver the anamorphic look filmmakers crave, but they tend to be heavy and bulky. DZOFILM’s Arcana primes promise that signature look without the size penalty: a 2X feel from a lens built like a 1.5X. The compact design alone makes them worth a look for gimbal shooters.

PL-mount only is a frustrating choice. Adapters cover other mounts, but they add a step some users won’t want to take. Even with that caveat, the Arcana series looks like a compelling option for anyone moving into anamorphic shooting.

Pricing and availability

The Arcana anamorphic primes ship in early May 2026. Individual lenses run $1,099. A three-lens kit goes for $2,899.
