We’ve known about the FUJINON GF80mmF1.7 R WR for a little while now. However, we had little to no details about the lens. Today, Fujifilm revealed all its specs and its official release date.
The GF80mmF1.7 R WR is a standard prime lens for Fujifilm GFX medium-format systems. It’s a quite unique lens for medium format cameras. According to Fujifilm, this is the fastest lens in its GF line-up. The company also claims the lens is the world’s first AF-capable F1.7 interchangeable lens for Large Format cameras.
FUJINON GF80mmF1.7 overview
Overall, it looks like the FUJINON GF80mmF1.7 is suited well for both on-location and in-studio use. Internally, the GF80mmF1.7 R WR features nine rounded diaphragm blades. It comprises 12 lens elements in nine groups, including one aspherical element and two Super ED elements. It also features a high-precision glass-molded aspherical element with a tolerance of 1/100,000th of a millimeter. Fujifilm claims the lens is five times faster than regular aspherical lenses. Also, Fujifilm promises the GF80mmF1.7’s internal elements will deliver quality bokeh.
The FUJINON GF80mmF1.7 is weather-sealed, protecting the lens from water and dust. Additionally, it’s capable of operating at temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C). As for the lens’ weight, it weighs just 795 (1.75 lb). The lens measures out to be 3.9 inches long. Its filter thread size is 77mm.
