Tamron just released two new lenses for Sony E-mount

Tamron has just revealed two new lenses for the Sony E-mount. Those lenses are the 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 and the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD.

Let’s take a look at each lens and break down what we know so far:

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2

Being the direct follow-up to the original 28-75mm f/2.8 DI III RXD, we can see the new Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 retains the same compact body. However, Tamron’s made a few tweaks to the design with hopes of making it more comfortable for users to operate. Even though the design is compact, the lens still packs more performance than its predecessor. For instance, its autofocus system runs at faster speeds, with higher accuracy, than the original. That’s thanks to its new autofocus system using Tamron’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor mechanism.

Spec-wise, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 has a minimum focusing distance of 7.1-inches at the wide and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7.

Pricing and availability

Currently, Tamron hasn’t released any specific information about when the lens will release. However, it did suggest the lens will release sometime this year. There’s also no information about the lens’ price. The original 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD launched for $800 back in 2018, so we can probably expect the lens to launch at a similar price.

Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD

The 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD is a major release for Tamron and Sony E-mount. According to Tamron, the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD is the first-ever mirrorless zoom with a maximum wide-open aperture of f/2 for Sony E-mount. Just like the 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2, the lens features the VXD autofocus motor. So, we can expect it to have a higher functioning autofocus system.

Pricing and availability

In a similar story as the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2, there’s no specific release date pinned down for the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD. We can expect the lens to release sometime this year. We’ll also have to wait for Tamron to reveal the lens’ price at a later date.
