NAB 2019: SmallHD introduces FOCUS 7 — a 7” on-camera monitor

Modeled after its 5-inch FOCUS monitor, today SmallHD presents us with a new 7-inch touchscreen monitor: the FOCUS 7.

You can watch SmallHD’s announcement video below:

The monitor itself is designed for low-profile camera setups and is viewable in daylight. If you find yourself shooting on a very sunny day, you shouldn’t have any issues seeing what’s going on on the monitor. The monitor provides full HD resolution and power output functionality for $699.

SmallHD says it’s put a lot of the original 5-inch monitor into the FOCUS 7. “The original 5-inch FOCUS monitor was successful because it made shooting with a small DSLR or mirrorless cameras so much easier,” says Dale Backus, SmallHD Co-Founder. “The FOCUS 7 offers similar functionality …” The display adds a larger display size and resolution while still weighing less than a pound. When measured, the display cmes out to be 6.9” wide, 4.7” high and 1” deep. As for its weight, it comes out to be 11.28 oz.

Compatible with 4K resolution video at 30 fps

The 7″ monitor features a 1000-nit bright, 1920 x 1200 resolution IPS LCD touchscreen display. It’s also able to accept video up to 4K resolution at 30 fps, thanks to its full-size HDMI input. There’s 2 integrated Sony L Series battery slots as well, that open up the possibility for them to be hot swappable.

Mounting

When mounting the display, it offers 1/4”-20 threads and an optional Tilt Arm mounting accessory. The Tilt Arm reportedly uses your camera’s cold shoe and “provides friction-based tilt for easy monitor adjustments.”

Pricing and availability

The SmallHD FOCUS 7 is out now for $699.
