SIRUI has launched its first full-frame autofocus lens. The SIRUI AURORA series 85mm F1.4 prime lens is available with a Sony E-mount, a Nikon Z Mount or a Fujifilm X Mount.
Lightweight
SIRUI’s new AURORA 85mm prime lens is lightweight, weighing only 19 ounces (540g). The company says this makes it at least 3.5 ounces (102 g) lighter than similar lenses from other manufacturers. It’s also a compact lens, measuring only four inches in length (101.7 mm). With such a relatively small form factor, the AURORA 85mm prime lens should be ideal for use handheld or on a gimbal.
Autofocus
This prime lens is SIRUIs first full-frame lens with autofocus. It uses a stepping motor which the company says delivers fast, smooth, and almost silent focusing. The lens also supports Eye-AF and object tracking and is suited for still photography or video use. In addition, SIRUI says that it can follow focus even with fast-moving subjects. The AURORA 85mm lens features a physical autofocus/manual focus switch and a button that locks the autofocus when held.
Optical design

The AURORA 85mm prime lens is constructed with fourteen lens elements in nine groups. These include one aspherical lens element, two ED (extra-low dispersion) lens elements and three HRI (high refractive index) lens elements. Combined together, these elements reduce the weight of the lens while controlling chromatic aberration and chromatic dispersion. They also reduce stray light and improve light transmission. The AURORA 85mm lens has a close focus distance of 2.79 feet (0.85 meters).
Fast aperture
The AURORA 85mm prime lens has a fast maximum aperture of F1.4. This will deliver a razor-thin depth of field and superb low-light performance. With a 15-bladed iris, the lens should give a beautiful circular bokeh in out-of-focus parts of your image. The AURORA 85mm has a manual aperture ring and you can choose between clicked or declicked operation with a manual switch. This is essential for seamlessly adjusting exposure when shooting video.
Construction
In terms of construction, the AURORA 85mm prime lens is constructed with an aluminum alloy body. It also has a dustproof and waterproof design so it’s suitable for use in all conditions. In addition, the front lens is coated with antifouling fluorine to reduce oil stains and dust. The lens mount hides a USB-C port for firmware updates which is great as some other lens manufacturers require you to purchase a separate dock. It comes with a lens hood to improve contrast in your image.
What we think
The SIRUI 85 mm prime lens is an ideal focal length for portrait work on a full-frame camera. With such a wide maximum aperture, focusing can be tricky, so fast and accurate autofocus is a welcome addition. It’s also such a lightweight lens that you won’t get tired working handheld or with a gimbal. In addition, the option for a declicked aperture shows that SIRUI has video shooters in mind.
