Sigma’s prices to rise in the U.S. due to tariffs

Sigma has become the latest company to announce price rises in the U.S. because of the tariffs imposed by President Trump. However, you have a chance to beat the increases and save yourself some money.

What has Sigma said?

Sigma announced the price rises in a press release earlier this week. The release took the form of an open letter from Sigma America’s President, Mark Amir-Hamzeh. He opened with an apology for the price rises.

The letter began, “Dear Sigma customers, Thank you for your continued support and trust in Sigma. We are sorry to inform you of an upcoming pricing adjustment to our products, effective June 2, 2025.”

Amir-Hamzeh’s letter went on to explain, “Due to the recent implementation of government-imposed tariffs, our costs at Sigma America have increased substantially. We have made every effort to absorb these added expenses, but the sustained impact of the tariffs now necessitates a price increase to ensure we can continue delivering the quality and service you expect.”

Amir-Hamzeh’s letter concluded, “We understand this is difficult news to hear, and please know this decision was not made lightly. We have always prided ourselves on delivering unmatched value to our customers, and we are doing everything we can to continue to do that while providing the same service and product excellence. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued partnership.”

Prices held for now

The key details of the price rises from Sigma are:

  • Current pricing will remain in effect for all orders placed and fulfilled by May 31, 2025, subject to product availability.
  • New pricing will take effect on June 2, 2025, and will apply to all new orders and any unfulfilled items.

It’s important to remember that these increases only apply to the United States. Prices everywhere else in the world are unaffected.

What we think

Sigma has become the latest company to fall victim to President Trump’s tariffs. The company’s statement follows previous announcements of price rises from ASUS and Canon. Fujifilm has also suspended some shipments while it decides how to respond to the implications of the tariffs. Despite the President’s promises, yet again, the U.S. consumers are picking up the bills for the government’s fiscal policies. However, Sigma has delayed the impact of the tariffs until June.
