Shure launches MoveMic wireless mic system

Shure has launched a new wireless lavalier microphone system, the Shure MoveMic. It’s designed to transmit single or dual-channel audio directly to a smartphone. Alternatively, you can choose a configuration with a receiver for use with video cameras or audio recorders.

Ultra-compact design

The MoveMic is an ultra-compact wireless lavalier mic that connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth. The all-in-one mic and transmitter unit really is tiny, measuring only 0.9 x 1.8 x 0.6 inches (22 x 46 x 15 mm) and weighing only 0.3 ounces (8.2 g). It’s also very discreet in use, with the body of the MoveMic designed to go inside your talent’s clothing. This leaves only a small black clip with a subtle S logo visible. In addition, the MoveMic lavalier transmitter is IPX4 rated, which means it can withstand spills, splashes and the demands of recording outdoors.

Configurations

You can choose between single-channel audio with the MoveMic One which has a single lavalier transmitter or dual-channel audio with the MoveMic Two which has two mics. The MoveMic lavaliers connect directly to your smartphone via Bluetooth and the Shure MOTIV audio and video apps. This means you don’t need a separate receiver unit. However, if you want to use the MoveMic with your video camera or audio recorder, you can add a receiver unit, or buy a kit that comes with two transmitters and a receiver.

Using the MoveMic

Shure says that the MoveMic system has an operating range of up to 98.4 feet (30 meters). As with most compact wireless mic systems, this probably requires a line of sight between the transmitter and your smartphone or the receiver unit. The MoveMic Lavalier microphone will operate for up to 11 hours on a single charge. You will also get two additional eight-hour recharges from the charging case to give more than 24 hours of recording for every full charge.

MOTIV app

You only need to pair your MoveMic lavalier to the MOTIV app once. After that, it will automatically reconnect to the last device when removed from the charging case and powered on. With the MOTIV video or audio apps you can also configure audio settings such as gain, limiter, compression, noise reduction and EQ. You can even record or live stream your content directly from the app.

What we think

The Shure MoveMic is a great wireless microphone solution. The lavalier transmitter units are much more discreet in use than the larger units from Rode or DJI for example. It’s also good to see that the system is modular. So you can start with a single microphone and then add a second unit or a receiver as your needs change and grow. Whether you use a smartphone or a camera for your content creation, the Shure MoveMic system is an attractive solution.

Pricing and availability

The Shure MoveMic One comes with one wireless lavalier microphone, a charging case, and a USB-C to USB-C Charging Cable. It retails at $249. The MoveMic Two adds a second wireless lavalier and costs $349. If you want to add the receiver, it is available as a standalone unit for $199. Alternatively, you can buy the MoveMic Two Receiver Kit as a complete set for $499.
