Sennheiser has launched its latest addition to the Momentum series of headphones, the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless. The new headphones offer advanced noise cancelling and future Dolby Atmos support.
Signature performance
Inside the Momentum 5 Wireless sits the same 42 mm transducer that powered the previous model. Sennheiser builds it at its factory in Tullamore, Ireland, with tuning inspired by the company’s HD 600 series. The result is a full-bodied profile with strong bass response.
Sound Personalization Engine
Hi-Res Audio certification is on board. So is Snapdragon Sound with Bluetooth codec support up to aptX Lossless.
The free Smart Control Plus app introduces a new 8-band EQ and bespoke presets. There’s also a Sound Personalization engine that lets you shape the response to your own ear.
Noise cancelling
Sennheiser doubled the microphone count for active noise cancellation on this generation. That’s four mics per side. The payoff, according to the company, is up to three times more effective performance against voice chatter.
Droning airplane cabin noise also gets better suppression. Voice quality on calls should sound more natural, too.

Battery life
A single charge delivers up to 57 hours with active noise cancelling running. Quick charging keeps downtime short when you do plug in. The 700mAh battery is user-replaceable, which is rare at this price. Swap it out down the road rather than tossing the headphones.
Future updates
Sennheiser has lined up a series of upgrades for the months following launch. From day one you can download an update that enables Dolby Atmos with head-tracking for spatial immersion on supported content. A later firmware release will move the headphones from Bluetooth 5.4 to Bluetooth 6.0.
What we think
The Momentum 5 Wireless promises a premium listening experience without external distractions getting in the way.
It’s a little strange that Dolby Atmos arrives as a download rather than shipping-enabled. The longer roadmap of upgrades is still a welcome sign. Sennheiser also deserves credit for the user-replaceable battery. That single decision extends the product’s lifespan, saves consumers money and cuts down on electronic waste.
If a premium pair of cans is on your radar, the Momentum 5 Wireless belongs on the shortlist.
Pricing and availability
The Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless ships June 16 for $399 in black, white or denim. Each pair includes a USB-C charging cable and a 3.5mm analog audio cable for in-flight entertainment systems, laptops and other wired sources.
