The SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE ArmorATD external hard drive is now available in an eye-catching Deep Purple colorway. However, it’s only available via Apple’s online store and is currently limited to the 1TB capacity drive.
Deep Purple colorway
The SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE ArmorATD external hard drive usually comes in a silver gray design with a dark gray bumper. However, Apple’s exclusive Deep Purple colorway is a much more eye-catching. The body of the drive is a blueish-purple, with a pinky-red G logo. Also, the rubber bumper is bright yellow. There’s also a flash of red with the cover for the single USB-C port.
Transfer speeds
The Deep Purple SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE ArmorATD external hard drive is a mechanical drive. As a result, it has transfer speeds much slower than an SSD delivers. Sandisk quotes transfer rates of up to 130MB/s for read speeds but doesn’t give write speeds. The drive’s interface is USB 3.2 Gen 1 and Thunderbolt 3 compatible, which is capable of faster transfers. However, that is limited by the hard drive itself.
Durability
The Deep Purple SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE ArmorATD external hard drive is built for resilience, not speed. It features an aluminum enclosure with a large rubber bumper as well as triple-layer shock resistance. This shock-resistant design means that the drive can withstand a drop of nearly four feet (1.2 meters) onto a carpeted concrete floor. Additionally, the drive’s enclosure offers crush resistance up to 1,000 pounds. It also features an IP54 rating for resistance to rain and dust.

As such, it will fill up quickly if you are backing up high-resolution camera footage on location. In addition, the slow transfer speeds of a mechanical drive mean that it will take longer to store your files.
