SanDisk has launched what it claims is the world’s fastest 1.5 TB microSD card. The company says that the new card is ideal for Android devices and tablets, as well as Windows laptops and Chromebooks. MicroSD cards are also used by some drones and action cameras.
SanDisk’s speed claim for the new 1.5 TB microSD card does need a little clarification. First off, the “world’s fastest” label only applies to the read speed of the card. In addition, the maximum transfer speed of 150 MB/s is only the fastest for a 1.5 TB card. There are different capacity microSD cards which have faster read speeds. SanDisk also says that you need to use their MobileMate USB 3.0 microSD card reader to achieve the quoted speeds.
SanDisk hasn’t released the write speeds for the 1.5TB microSD card. It’s also only rated as V10 which means that it has a minimum sustained write speed of 10 MB/s. In addition, the card has an Application Performance Class rating of A1. A1 means that a card has a minimum random read of 1500 IOPS (input/output operations per second) and a minimum random write of 500 IOPS. This is the slower of the two speed ratings for Android devices. However, it should mean that apps work quickly on your Android device.
What we think
This new SanDisk 1.5TB microSD card gives you a huge amount of storage. If you use an Android smartphone or tablet, it’s a great way to increase the device’s built-in capacity. For Chromebook or Windows ultra-light laptop users, the new card will also deliver a boost to your internal storage. In addition, if the card is fast enough, it’s a great way to extend the record time of your drone or action camera.
