Rokinon adds new AF 85mm lens to Nikon F mount

Described as “the ideal portrait-length prime,” Rokinon’s new AF 85mm F1.4 Full Frame Lens for Nikon F mount is designed for “optimal quality” imaging, according to Rokinon. Made to pair with most Nikon Full Frame image sensor cameras, it also works with Nikon APS-C sensor cameras as a 127.5mm equivalent AF telephoto lens.

Design

This 85mm has a variety of lens technologies including a Hybrid Aspherical element. Its technologies also allow for a more compact and lightweight design. The lens measures out to be less than 3 inches long and weighs 17oz.

There is an ultra multi-coating on all of the optical surfaces to keep flares and ghosting at bay. Additionally, the coating should increase contrast and color accuracy. Overall, its design minimizes aberrations, controls distortion, and should provide “excellent resolution.”

Also, the Rokinon AF 85mm F1.4 has weather sealing, an all-metal build and an ergonomically designed size, shape and grip for more comfort when holding the lens. It has a rounded 9-blade aperture for improved bokeh capture as well.

Autofocus

When it comes to the lens’ autofocus, Rokinon says it’s “fast, quiet” and uses two Linear Ultrasonic Motors. Those motors only have to adjust a single inner lens group to focus.

Pricing and availability

The Rokinon AF 85mm F1.4 Full Frame Lens for Nikon F mount will be out early in May for $799. It will come with a reversible lens hood, lens caps and a pouch case.
