RØDE has announced its latest video production console, the RØDE RØDECaster Video. The new console combines video switching, production and recording capabilities with a complete professional audio studio.
Design
The RØDECaster Video has a small footprint on your desktop, measuring just 12 inches (305.9 mm) wide, 5.2 inches (132.5 mm) deep and 2.4 inches (61.4 mm) high. However, the company has managed to fit in 14 buttons to switch between your video sources or customized scenes. There are also four function buttons to access effects such as graphic overlay and chromakeying. In addition, with the Inspect button, you can preview and configure any input or scene on-the-fly.
The RØDECaster Video features a color two-inch touchscreen. In combination with the rotary encoder, this delivers intuitive hands-on control over every aspect of your production. You can quickly and easily navigate through your video, audio and other settings. In addition, you can see transition types and timing, as well as other critical information about your production.
Inputs and outputs
With the RØDECaster Video, you can switch between six video sources and seven fully customizable scenes at the press of a button. The console includes four full 1080p HD HDMI inputs with auto frame rate conversion. There are also two configurable HDMI outputs for viewing the program, preview and Multiview displays. You can also add two more webcams or audio devices via dual USB-C ports. In addition, the RØDECaster Video features two studio-grade Neutrik XLR combo jacks with ultra-low-noise, high-gain Revolution Preamps.
Video production
The RØDECaster Video is powered by a high-performance octa-core CPU video and audio processor. You can build and configure complex scenes consisting of video sources, custom graphics, media playback and more. Switching between your scenes just needs the press of a press of the dedicated buttons. In addition, the RØDECaster Video features unique, dual-engine processing. This means that you can view entire scenes and complex compositions in a preview screen whilst sending an entirely different composition to the live program feed.
Audio processing
You can apply professional audio processing and effects powered by APHEX to all nine of the RØDECaster Video’s audio channels. These effects include compressors, noise-gates, de-essers as well as the Aural Exciter, Big Bottom and Compellor processors. You also get flexible audio mixing, custom routing and multitrack recording features.
Stream or record
With the RØDECaster Video, you can stream your content directly to Twitch, YouTube or your favorite streaming platform via Wi-Fi or ethernet. Alternatively, you can capture your entire video and audio production to a connected hard drive or USB storage device. You can also opt to record each video and audio source independently for more flexibility in post-production. In addition, you can use custom audio routing to send a completely different mix to your audience, your headphones and your recording.
Multiview display
The RØDECaster Video offers a multiview display feature. This delivers a comprehensive overview of all your production’s critical information on an external screen. You can preview every input, scene and feed. In addition, you can see the recording, streaming and audio information for your production, so you can be confident everything is going smoothly.
Remote control
You can also remotely control the RØDECaster Video wirelessly with the RØDE Central app. This is great for times when you can’t be close to the console. You can remotely switch inputs, adjust settings and configure complex scenes from your computer. In addition, the RØDECaster Video features hands-free auto-switching. This technology will automatically switch your camera angles depending on who’s talking. It’s perfect for video podcasts, panel discussions and other live discussions when you don’t have someone to operate the console.
