Panasonic launches new LUMIX S 20-60mm lens

Panasonic has just introduced a new interchangeable standard zoom lens: the LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6. It’s the newest addition to the LUMIX S-series.

The LUMIX S 20-60mm is based on the L-mount and is designed for professionals in the field. Panasonic says the lens “pursues uncompromising photographic expression with its high-quality camera and lenses.” The lens itself seems to be both a compact and lightweight standard zoom lens. Its focal length range offers some flexibility for its uses. It can cover ultra-wide shots with its 20 mm focal length and cover standard shots for landscapes with its 60 mm focal length.

Inside, the lens is built with 11 elements in nine groups. It uses two aspherical lenses and three extra-low Dispersion lenses to suppress both axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration of magnification. Astigmatism is also corrected due to the aspherical lenses. Additionally, the LUMIX S 20-60mm features an Ultra-High Refractive Index lens to achieve uniform image quality from the center of the image while also downsizing the lens unit.

Design

In terms of weight, the lens weighs approximately 12.3 oz / 350g. Also, the lens made with a rugged dust/splash-resistant design that can withstand conditions at 14°F / -10°C.

Pricing and availability

The LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 will be out at the end of July in L-mount for $599.
