Nanlite has launched two tiny new dual-sided lights for content creators. The Nanlite cookie and cookie-s simply plug into your smartphone or a battery bank for extra light on the go.
Design
The Nanlite cookie is a circular shape while the cookie-s is rectangular. However, the specifications of the two lights are almost identical. The cookie measures 2.23 inches (56.6 mm) by 1.95 inches (49.53 mm) by 0.63 inches (16.01 mm) while the cookie-s is 2 inches (50.8 mm) by 1.85 inches by 0.63 inches. Both are also super lightweight at just 0.76 ounces (21.4 g). The lights have a built-in USB-C plug for connecting to your smartphone or a power bank. In addition, you can choose between three color options: Coral Pink, Cyan Blue and Lavender.
Dual-sided
Nanlite’s cookie and cookie-s are dual-sided lights. One side offers a hard light with eight focusing lenses, which produce a concentrated output. The other side uses a diffuser to deliver a soft, more eye-friendly light. You can choose which side you want to illuminate via buttons on the light. You can also light up both sides, which is ideal for dual capture videos where you capture yourself as well as your subject. Both lights have a beam angle of 120 degrees for the soft light side. However, the different arrangement of the light emitters means that the hard light side of the cookie has a beam angle of 45 degrees, while the cookie-s is 50 degrees.

Tri-color
There are three different selectable color temperatures to match the ambient lighting in your scenes. The options are 3,200 K for warm tungsten lighting, 4300K for fluorescent lighting, and 5,600 K for daylight. You can also choose between low, medium, and high outputs, as well as off. It’s quick and easy to switch between the different options using the on-light buttons.
The two lights have impressive color accuracy with an average CRI of 85 and average TLCI of 98.
Photometrics
The Nanlite cookie and cookie-s are designed as close-up and fill lights but still deliver an impressive output. At around one foot (0.3 meters) and set to 5600K, you will get 2836 lux from the cookie and 2976 lux from the cookie-s using the hard light side. However, moving to 3.3 feet (1 meter), these numbers drop to 236 lux and 227 lux, respectively. Additionally, the soft light sides of the cookie and cookie-s have much lower outputs. At one foot (0.3 meters), you get up to 548 lux from the cookie and 515 lux from the cookie-s when set to 5600K.
What we think
The Nanlite cookie and cookie-s are neat little lights and have lots of uses. They are so small and lightweight that you can take them with you everywhere. The option for dual sided lighting is also great for content creators who shoot dual capture videos.
Plus, the cookie and cookie-s are so much more versatile due to their high color accuracy and option to run them from a power bank. You could hide them away as a tiny fill light in a restricted location like a car or anywhere too small for a regular film light. At such a super cheap price, the Nanlite cookie and cookie-s are a steal and would be a great addition to any camera bag.
