Manfrotto has launched a new range of high-capacity professional lithium-ion batteries. The batteries are available to replace select Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus OM System, and Sony camera batteries.
High Capacity
The new Manfrotto lithium-ion batteries all have a high 2,400mAh capacity. This is an impressive 20% increase compared to the company’s previous range of batteries, which had a capacity of 2,000mAh. The voltages vary from 7V to 7.2V depending on the camera brand they are intended for. In addition, Manfrotto has chosen a vibrant red color for the body of the batteries so they will be easy to spot in your camera bag.
Compatibility
Canon: For Canon users, the Manfrotto battery is equivalent to an LP-E6NH type battery. This is used by DSLRs including the 5D, 6D, and 7D. It’s also used by some newer EOS R cameras, including the R5 and R6 models.
Fujifilm: Manfrotto’s new battery is equivalent to Fujifilm’s NP-W235 battery, used in cameras including the GFX, GFX 100S, and X-T4.
Nikon: For Nikon shooters, the new Manfrotto battery is compatible with cameras that use Nikon’s EN-EL15c batteries. You can use the battery with the Z6, Z6 II, Z7, Z7 II, D850, D810, D780, D750, and many more.
Olympus OM System: The new Manfrotto battery is a replacement for the Olympus BLX-1 battery used in the OM-1 and OM-1 Mark II cameras.
Sony: The Manfrotto battery is equivalent to Sony’s NP-FZ100 battery, used by Sony cameras such as the a7S III, a7R III, a7R IV, a7C, a9, and Cinema Line FX3.
Durability
Manfrotto says the batteries are rated for more than 500 charge and discharge cycles. This means that even if you use them five days a week, every week, the batteries will last you two years. In addition, Manfrotto has designed the batteries to stand up to the rigors of professional life. The battery casing is silicone-injected for superior circuit protection and electrical insulation, and it provides protection from drops up to nine feet.
What we think
Batteries aren’t the most exciting accessory, but we do need them! It’s good to see that Manfrotto has managed to increase the capacity of its new batteries by as much as 20%. This means you won’t need to swap batteries as often during a shoot, so maybe your camera bag will be a little lighter. There’s always a risk with third-party batteries that they won’t be 100% compatible with a camera. For example, Sony recently updated the firmware in some cameras so battery life isn’t displayed with non-Sony batteries. However, Manfrotto is a brand you can trust, and its new batteries are cheaper than most camera manufacturers’ batteries.
