LumaFusion adds support for animated GIFs and new transitions

LumaTouch has released a new version of its video editor, LumaFusion. LumaFusion 4.1 now supports the import and export of animated GIFs. There are also two new transitions.

LumaFusion

LumaFusion is a simple yet powerful video editor for mobile platforms. It is primarily available for iOS and iPadOS devices, although the Android version was released towards the end of last year. As such, LumaFusion is designed to be operated by simple touch and finger controls. Although it’s a mobile app, LumaFusion has features such as multiple aspect ratios and framerates, track layering, cropping, audio mixing and custom titling. In addition, earlier in the year, LumaTouch added multi-cam editing for iOS and iPadOS.

Animated GIFs

The LumaFusion 4.1 update adds support for animated GIFs. You can now import animated GIFs into the app and place them onto the timeline. LumaFusion converts animated images to videos and also maintains transparency. Once imported you can use the GIF as part of your edit. In addition, once edited, you can then export your content as a looping animation. This means you can create your own animated GIFs for use across your social media.

New transitions

LumaFusion 4.1 also comes with two new transitions, Perspective Turns and Stretches. LumaTouch says that Perspective Turns creates a transition in which video turns in a 3D plane. The company says this creates “a fun and visually interesting way to add to a story.” As its name suggests, the Stretches transition stretches one clip into the next. LumaTouch describes this as adding “an exciting dynamic between sequences.”

What we think

LumaFusion continues to become more powerful with each update. The ability to import and export animated GIFs is a great new feature. In addition, new transitions are also always welcome though the fancier options are best used sparingly. If you want to edit on the go with your iOS or iPadOS devices, then you should definitely take a look at LumaFusion. Hopefully, LumaTouch will update the Android version in the near future as well to add the new features.

Pricing and availability

LumaFusion 4.1 is available now and the app costs $30 on the Apple App store. The update is also free if you already own the app.

At the time of writing, the Android version of LumaFusion hasn’t yet been updated with the new features or multi-cam editing.
