LumaFusion 5.0 for iPad adds speed ramping and enhanced keyframing

LumaTouch has released version 5.0 of its LumaFusion video editing and effects app for iPad. The new version adds speed ramping and enhanced keyframing as well as many more new features. Note that these new options do require a one-time in-app purchase.

LumaFusion

LumaFusion gives you six video and audio or graphics tracks to work with. There are also six additional audio tracks, so you can create detailed soundtracks, along with advanced audio controls and equalization. With LumaFusion’s Multicam Studio feature, you can synchronize up to six cameras and simply tap to switch between them. In addition, the app has a range of effects including transitions, green screen, image stabilization and titling options.

Speed ramping

The headline new feature in LumaFusion 5.0 is speed ramping. Think of a video you have seen with a skateboarder traveling at full speed and then switching seamlessly to slow motion as they perform a trick. That’s speed ramping. With LumaFusion 5.0 you can keyframe your video’s speed to create speed ramps quickly and easily. There are also new speed presets to give you instant results. In addition, you can add a freeze frame effect to your clips in the Speed Editor.

Bézier curve path editor

LumaFusion 5.0’s Bézier curve path editor gives you precise control over the motion of your videos, images, and effects. There are also new ease controls and ease-in and ease-out presets. Ease settings make any movement slow gradually to a stop or speed up when starting off. This makes movements appear more natural and smoother. In addition, LumaFusion 5.0 has Velocity and Ease graphs so you can see how the ease controls affect your animations.

Keyframes

In LumaFusion 5.0, you can move keyframes more easily. You can press and hold to drag keyframes or use the nudge buttons for precise adjustments. The app’s new motion presets also take full advantage of version 5.0’s enhanced keyframing. In addition, you now have independent Size, Position and Rotation controls. You can unlink these for more control over your keyframe animations.

New free features

LumaFusion 5.0 has a range of new free features that don’t require a one-time in-app purchase. The new version adds grids, title and action safe areas and horizons on internal and external previews. There are also dozens of new transitions. In addition, you can now customize LumaFusion’s user interface to suit your needs. You can adjust the size of the Preview, Presets and Settings windows. For left-handed users, you can now switch the preview to the right side in the clip editor. There’s even a new What’s Happening panel that helps you find the latest tutorials, updates and information about LumaFusion.

What we think

Speed ramping has been one of LumaFusion’s most requested features so there will be a lot of happy users of the app now. It does require an additional in-app purchase but $20 is pretty good value for what you are getting. The enhanced keyframing features are also useful for so much more than just speed ramping, especially with the new ease controls. In addition, the new presets mean that you can take advantage of the improved controllability, even if you are new to using keyframes. If you already work with LumaFusion then upgrading to version 5.0 and paying for speed ramping is highly recommended. If you haven’t tried LumaFusion before, then the app just got a lot more tempting.

Pricing and availability

LumaFusion 5.0 for iPad is available from the Apple app store now. It’s a free upgrade for existing users and $29 for new customers. The speed ramping and enhanced keyframing features require a one-time in-app purchase of $19.
