Lexar has announced the addition of a 512 GB CFexpress Type B card to its Professional DIAMOND Series of memory cards. The range currently includes a 256 GB and 128 GB card.

Transfer speeds

The new Lexar 512 GB CFexpress Type B card has a fast transfer read speed of up to 1900 MB/s. It also has a write speed of up to 1700 MB/s with a minimum sustained write speed of 1600 MB/s. In addition, the card features PCIe Gen 3×2 and NVMe high-speed protocols. What this all means is that the new 512GB CFexpress Type B card is ideal for video recording. Lexar states that the new card will capture the highest quality RAW and ProRes at 4K, 6K and even 8K with ease.

VPG400

Lexar’s 512 GB CFexpress Type B card is certified to the VPG400 (Video Performance Guarantee Profile) specification. The VPG400 certification means the card has been tested to guarantee a minimum write speed while recording video of at least 400 MBps without dropping any frames.

Durability

The card is designed to be shock and vibration-proof so that it can withstand the rigors of use on location. It is also resistant to extreme temperatures. In addition, Lexar backs the card with a lifetime limited warranty, so you can rely on the card for as long as you need it. In some countries, such as Germany, the warranty is restricted to ten years. However, that is still a long time in video technology terms.

What we think

Shooting video at higher resolutions such as 4K, 6K and 8K means that your footage looks better and better. However, it also means that file sizes get larger and the length of time you can record on your memory cards gets correspondingly shorter. As such, higher capacity cards like the new Lexar 512GB CFexpress Type B card are essential.

Pricing and availability

The Lexar Professional CFexpress Type B Card DIAMOND Series card is available now and costs $529.
