Insta360 launches Flow 2 smartphone gimbal

Insta360 has unveiled its latest smartphone gimbal, the Insta360 Flow 2. It’s designed to be an affordable, creator-friendly gimbal and it comes in two models, the Flow 2 and the Flow 2 Pro.

Compact folding design

The Insta360 Flow 2 smartphone gimbal has a folding design, which makes it easy to take with you. At just 3.6 inches (97.9 mm) by 7 inches (178.4 mm) by 1.4 inches (36.7 mm) when folded, it’s small enough to fit into a bag or even a large pocket! Once opened up, the Flow 2 is still only 4.8 inches (121.1 mm) by 11.1 inches (282.1 mm) by 2.1 inches (54 mm), so it’s very compact in use.

The gimbal is lightweight at 12.3 ounces (348 g) for the Flow 2 and 12.6 ounces (357 g) for the Pro model. The gimbal’s magnetic phone clamp adds an extra 0.9 ounces (25 g) on top.

One-Tap Shooting

The Insta360 Flow 2 smartphone gimbal delivers built-in three-axis stabilization. It also includes a feature called NFC One-Tap Shooting. This means that, with compatible smartphones, you can skip the Bluetooth pairing process. You simply tap your phone and can jump straight into the Insta360 app’s shooting page. Alternatively, for Android users, you can use a Quick Launch option to open your native phone camera as soon as you unfold the gimbal.

Also, you can control the Flow 2 with your Apple Watch or a second smartphone.

Smarter tracking

The Insta360 Flow 2 smartphone gimbal offers Deep Track 4.0, which the company describes as “our smartest tracking tech yet”. This latest version of Insta360’s AI tracking delivers better subject identification even when obstructed by obstacles. You also get better support for tracking full groups. Insta360 says this is ideal for filming a group dance or performance, or simply vlogging with friends. In addition, the Pro Framing Grid feature uses Insta360’s golden ratio tech. This gives you nine unique angles to choose from with a tap of the screen.

AI Tracker

You can buy the Insta360 Flow 2 smartphone gimbal with an AI Tracker with a built-in spotlight. This delivers subject tracking in third-party apps that don’t natively support it. The Insta360 app also includes a Teleprompter feature. You can simply load up your script, and it will scroll while you record with your phone’s camera. Plus, the Flow 2 gimbal is compatible with the Insta360 Mic Air for great audio as well as remote starting and stopping of your recordings.

Other features

The Insta360 Flow 2 smartphone gimbal has a runtime of up to 10 hours and recharges in just two hours. It also has a built-in selfie stick and a metal tripod. With the Flow 2 Pro, you get some extra features as well. These include a selfie mirror and tracking ring light.

The Pro model delivers 360-degree infinite pan tracking and a free tilt mode. Other Pro-only benefits are a transparent motor design and Apple Dock kit native tracking.

What we think

The Insta360 Flow 2 gimbal is the perfect way to add smooth movement to your smartphone videos. It’s ideal for content creators who use their phone for some or all of their videos. The folding design also makes it easy to take with you when you are traveling light. This means you can be ready for impromptu shoots on the spur of the moment.

Additionally, the improved tracking and NFC One-tap Shooting mean that it’s easier than ever to get perfect tracking shots. For anyone who films videos on their smartphone, the Insta360 Flow 2 gimbal is a great bit of kit.

Pricing and availability

The Insta360 Flow 2 and Flow 2 Pro smartphone gimbals are available now. They are priced at $109 and $159, respectively, for the Standard Bundles. The AI Tracker bundles are $20 extra.
