Hollyland launches Pyro 7 all-in-one monitor with TX and RX

Hollyland has launched a new all-in-one video monitor, the Hollyland Pyro 7. As well as a seven-inch screen, the Pyro 7 includes wireless video transmission (TX) and receiving (RX).

Video monitor

The Pyro 7 has a seven-inch full HD (1920 x 1200 pixels) touchscreen monitor. It’s also a bright 1200 nits screen with a 1000:1 contrast ratio. This means it should be easy to see the images on the screen when filming outdoors. In addition, the Pyro 7 features a range of tools to ensure you capture great videos. These include focus assist, waveform, zebras, false color, 3D LUT and image overlay. The shell of the Pyro 7 is made of aerospace-grade magnesium-aluminum alloy. Hollyland says this material is more robust, rigid, 30% lighter and better at heat dissipation than aluminum-only models.

Wireless transmission

With the Pyro 7, you can connect one transmitter with multiple receivers using Hollyland’s WifiBroadcast technology. In Broadcast mode, the device can transmit a signal to up to four receivers. Alternatively, with Broadcast mode deactivated, you can send video to up to two receivers and two mobile devices using the HollyView app. The Pyro 7 is also fully compatible with Hollyland’s Pyro S and Pyro H transmitters and receivers.

Signal range

The Pyro 7 uses 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual-band transmission to achieve an operational range of up to 1,300 feet (400 meters). Hollyland’s Auto Dual-Band Hopping (ADH) technology is also designed to combat interference to deliver reliable and uninterrupted wireless video transmission. In addition, you can choose between HD mode for superior image quality with a stable bitrate of 8-12 Mbps, or Smooth mode for latency as low as 60 ms.

Inputs and outputs

The Pyro 7 has all the inputs and outputs you need for your wireless monitoring setup. You get 3G SDI input and output as well as HDMI 1.4b input and output. Both video outputs also support loop-out. In addition, there’s a USB-C port that supports RMTP streaming in TX mode. The Pyro 7 has a 3.5 mm headphone socket for audio monitoring and a locking 10-18 volt DC input port for power. Alternatively, you can use dual NPF batteries via the plate on the back of the monitor.

What we think

The Pyro 7 is a great addition to the Hollyland Pyro range. You get versatile transmission and receiving options along with a large, bright screen. The full range of camera tools such a false color and focus assist also make the Pyro 7 useful as an on-camera monitor as well as a remote screen. In addition, the compatibility with the Pyro S and Pyro H means that you can expand your system as your wireless transmission needs grow. If you are looking for a wireless monitoring solution, the Hollyland Pyro 7 is an option worth considering.

Pricing and availability

The Hollyland Pyro 7 will be released on July 25, 2024, priced at $549. You can also buy a kit with two Pyro 7 monitors for $999. In addition, there’s a video transmission monitoring kit that includes a Pyro 7 and a Pyro S and costs $899.
