Hasselblad updates Phocus Mobile 2 app with new Mask Tools

Hasselblad has released a new and updated version of its Phocus Mobile 2 app for iPhone and iPad. Version 4.0.0 adds a new Mask Tool for precise adjustments of your images.

What is Phocus Mobile 2?

Phocus Mobile 2 is an app from Hasselblad for iPhone and iPad. The app connects Hasselblad X System and V System medium format digital cameras to iPhone and iPad devices via Wi-Fi. Alternatively, you can the camera and Apple device via the Hasselblad USB-C to USB-C cable. Phocus Mobile 2 delivers remote camera control as well as photo import and export, editing and management. It can also handle HDR photos with compatible iPhone and iPad models.

In addition, Phocus Mobile 2 can render true-to-life colors, taking advantage of the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS).

New Mask Tool

Version 4.0.0 of the Hasselblad Phocus Mobile 2 app adds a new Mask Tool with three new mask types. These are Brush, Linear Gradient and Radial Gradient masks. Using the masks you can apply precise local adjustments of lighting and details to specific selected areas, rather than to the whole image. You can also add multiple masks to a single image for more complex edits. The Linear Gradient mask is ideal for applying smooth transitions across larger areas. Alternatively, the Radial Gradient mask applies an effect that changes as it moves away from a central point. Finally, with the Brush mask you can select specific areas freehand which is ideal for fine details or irregular shapes.

Other new features

There are some other new features in version 4.0.0 of the Hasselblad Phocus Mobile 2 as well. Somewhat late for 2026, Hasselblad has added a festive New Year Frame which you can use to enhance your images.

Plus, the new version of the app has an optimized editing interface UI. Hasselblad says that this delivers smoother operation and an upgraded creative experience.

What we think

If you work with a Hasselblad X System or V System medium format digital camera, Phocus Mobile 2 is an ideal app to install. It might seem counterintuitive to edit medium format images on an iPhone or iPad. However, Phocus Mobile 2 is a powerful yet portable image editing solution for when you are out and about. Support for HNCS HDR images means that you can see the full quality of your images. Now with the added masks, you can also fine tune the selected areas of your photos when you apply your edits. The only downside is that the Phocus Mobile 2 app is iOS only, there’s currently no Android option.

Pricing and availability

Version 4.0.0 of the Hasselblad Phocus Mobile 2 is available to download for free from the Apple app store now.
