Godox launches new Cube-C wireless microphone system

Godox has launched a new two-channel wireless microphone system for content creators and filmmakers. The Godox Cube-C wireless mics are tiny and at $99, so is the price.

The Godox Cube-C wireless microphone system comes with two microphone transmitters and one receiver. All of the components can be stored inside the supplied charging case. In addition, Godox says that the system features a high-gain antenna to enhance RF resistance. This delivers a transmission range of up to 1,000 feet (300 meters) using the 2.4 GHz wireless band. The Cube-C system is available in either white or black color options.

Transmitters

The Cube-C microphone transmitters are tiny, measuring just 0.98 inches (2.49 cm) by 0.96 inches (2.44 cm) by 0.49 inches (1.24 cm). In addition, they are super lightweight at only a quarter of an ounce (7 g). You can attach the transmitters to your talent via a necklace, a back clip or a magnetic clip. The Cube-C also offers 48kHz/24bit audio with a maximum sound pressure level (SPL) of 115dB. They also deliver a signal-to-noise ratio of greater than 70dB.

Receiver

Its receiver is larger than the transmitters, measuring 1.81 inches (4.6 cm) by 1.14 inches (2.9 cm) by 0.71 inches (1.8 cm). However, it’s even lighter than the transmitters at only 0.18 ounces (5g). You can connect the receiver to your camera, smartphone, tablet or computer via 3.5 mm TRS or USB-C.

In addition, you can choose to record in mono, stereo or with a separate -6dB safety channel in case of unexpected changes in sound levels. The receiver also has a denoise feature and you can increase or decrease volume by three levels.

Charging case

The Cube-C charging case is 30% smaller than the previous model. However, the 2300 mAh case will still recharge the transmitters and receiver three times. The transmitters and the receivers also have a battery life of up to 10 hours. This means that you can run the system for up to 40 hours without needing access to a power source. In addition, the transmitters and receiver are charged by the case in around 1.5 hours, so you won’t be out of action long. When you do need to recharge the case itself, that takes around three hours.

What we think

The Godox Cube-C wireless microphone system offers a lot of features for an amazingly low price. It promises good quality audio from units so small you really will forget you are wearing them. Unfortunately, there’s no option for on-board recording as a backup in case the wireless signal drops out. You also can’t use an external lavalier mic with the transmitters. However, at under $100, the Cube-C could be an ideal way for content creators on a tight budget to dramatically improve their audio quality.

Pricing and availability

The Godox Cube-C wireless microphone system is available now for $99. Godox also offers a Cube-C Combo option which adds a second receiver that you can plug directly into a smartphone. This retails at $119.
