Fujinon releases UA107x8.4 with an “advanced focus”

Fujinon has announced the development of the 4K broadcast lens, the FUJINON UA107X8.4 AF. Fujinon claims it’s the first box lens with Advanced Focus.

To be clear, the AF in the FUJINON UA107X8.4 AF stands for Advanced Focus. The UA107x8.4 AF broadcast lens uses a new phase-detection autofocus sensor. Fujinon says it achieves “fast, tack sharp images” with a speed of 0.5 seconds. In addition, the lens features Sony’s image stabilization mechanism and a 107x ultra-magnification zoom. That zoom covers focal lengths from 8.4mm to 900mm.

The “perfect choice” for live sports and entertainment, according to Fujinon

The UA107X8.4 AF’s High Dynamic Range and vivid color reproduction should make it a good option for those covering live sports and entertainment. While the lens uses aspherical and fluorite elements, Fujinon also included a multi-layer coating (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating). That coat boosts the rate of light transmittance. In turn, that results in more vivid color reproduction and HDR-based tonal gradation.

Video shooting

When it comes to video shooting, the UA107x8.4 AF allows for shooting 4K video.

“The penetration of 4K-compatible large-screen television in recent years has increased opportunities for enjoying ultra-high-definition 4K video,” says Fujinon.

To meet those opportunities, Fujinon says they have developed a 4K-compatible broadcast lens equipped with the AF function.

Availability

Fujinon will debut the UA107x8.4 AF at the Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Exhibition, being held from August 21 to August 24, 2019. So when will the lens release? According to Fujinon, the lens will be available in the spring of 2020. Currently, there’s no word on the price.
