Blackmagic Design has announced a new software update to the original Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6K camera. There’s a lot being added in this update, so let’s go over it all.

Custom 3D LUTs in Blackmagic RAW clips

Users now have the ability to embed custom 3D LUTs in Blackmagic RAW clips. 3D LUTs can be directly embedded as metadata within the .BRAW file. It should make it easier to get the look you want and keep it consistent throughout the entire project. Blackmagic says it’s easy to access 3D LUTs for editing and color correction in software like Davinci Resolve because they always travel with the .BRAW file.

Disable the HFR button

The update also adds something that’s been long requested: the ability to disable the HFR button. Users would sometimes accidentally change the frame rate between shots because of the HFR button. Now users can disable or remap the button, along with the VTR and return buttons on Cine‑servo PL and B4 lenses.

Audio improvements

Users can now choose between -18 or -20dB audio alignment levels on the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K. Additionally, sidetone adjustment for talkback has been added. So, that means camera operators can speak loudly in noisy environments and keep their voices mixed down in their earpiece. Line level XLR input signals can now also be adjusted and audio meters have improved ballistics.

1/3 stop ISO increments

1/3 stop ISO increments to the ISO slider have been added. Also, the ability to quickly switch media from the heads up display has been added along with 2:1, 1:1 and 5:4 frame guides. Users now also have the option for custom frame guides. Additionally, the media formatting interface has been improved.

Performance improvements

There have been a few performance boosts to the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K. The updates are general performance improvements and add greater stability when using external reference. Auto exposure speed and performance have been improved, in addition to playback of renamed clips.

New languages

Lastly, the update adds support for 11 different languages, allowing the camera to be used internationally. The camera now can be set to English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese or Korean.
