Blackmagic Design unveiled Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.0

Blackmagic Design has announced Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.0. The update to the company’s smartphone camera app adds new features as well as support for additional phones and tablets.

Blackmagic Camera app

Blackmagic Design initially launched its Blackmagic Camera app for iOS only in 2023. However, the company followed that up with an Android version in June last year. The app brings the intuitive and user-friendly interface from Blackmagic Design’s cinema cameras to your smartphone. You also get full manual control over frame rate, shutter angle, white balance and ISO. In addition, you get tools such as focus peaking and histogram to keep your videos looking great. You can even upload clips directly to the Blackmagic Cloud.

Remote control

Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.0 adds support for remotely controlling and monitoring multiple phones or tablets at the same time. This means that you can set your device to be the controller. You can then change settings for all devices running the Blackmagic Camera app on the same Wi-Fi network. Also, you can view each camera’s shots in a multi-view display. Additionally, you can simultaneously start and stop recording on all cameras.

Additional frame rates

Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.0 adds support for capturing up to 120 and 240 frames per second (fps) on supported Sony Xperia devices. This will give super slow motion playback. In addition, the updated app now supports Tilta Nucleus USB devices for lens control.

More supported devices

Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.0 now supports selected Android tablets, including the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Samsung Tab S9. Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, said, “Since we released Blackmagic Camera for iPad, customers have been asking for support on Android tablets.” Also, the Android app now supports the new Samsung S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra smartphones.

What we think

Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.0 is a simple yet powerful app for shooting video. You get access to the company’s much-admired user interface. The app also gives you a full arsenal of tools to ensure your video is in focus and correctly exposed with great audio. And the new remote control options mean that multi-cam filming just got a lot easier too. The larger displays on the newly supported tablets are also perfect for monitoring up to nine cameras in a multi-view. Even if it was a paid-for app, the Blackmagic Camera app would be highly recommended. It’s amazing to think that Blackmagic Design gives it away for free. Download it now and unlock the full video potential of your smartphone or tablet.

Availability

The Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.0 app is available to download from the Google Play store now. It’s free of charge.
