Aputure announces new Quick Dome diffusers and updates its Infinimat range

Aputure has announced a new series of Aputure Quick Dome diffusers which you can set up and collapse in seconds. The company has also updated the diffusers on its Infinimat inflatable panel lights.

Quick Domes

The new Aputure Quick Domes come in three different sizes. You can choose between 90 cm, 60 cm and 40 cm domes. Both the Quick Dome 90 and Quick Dome 60 feature a Bowens mount for wide compatibility. They also have an integrated handle for leverage and easy grip. However, the Quick Dome 40 uses the Mini ProLock mount for attaching to the Storm 80c light. All three domes fold flat for storage and come with removable diffusion, a light control grid and a carry bag. In addition, the Storm 80c three light kit now includes the Quick Dome 40 as standard

Infinimat updates

Aputure’s Infinimat light panels use an inflatable airbag to give structure to the light and provide diffusion. The original panel design featured white airbags. However, the airbags are now clear with interchangeable diffusers so you can choose the level of diffusion you want. The new clear airbag with interchangeable diffusers will be included on all models of Infinimat going forwards. You can also purchase clear airbags with interchangeable diffusers to update your existing lights. In addition, Aputure is offering a collapsible frame for the interchangeable diffusers which you can use instead of the airbag. It’s available for the 1×2, 1×4, 2×4 and 4×4 Infinimat models.

“Aputure is always striving to refine our products,” explains Mitch Gross, Aputure Director of Marketing. “The new Quick Domes pop open in seconds and satisfyingly click into place. They’re just as easy to put away, and they pack flat for storage. The Infinimats are in high demand by discerning filmmakers like Academy Award winner James Friend, who used them throughout his new film Ballad of a Small Player. Aputure actively seeks input from filmmakers like Friend, and we revised the Infinimat line with a clear airbag, interchangeable diffusion, and designed accessory diffusion frames so the mats could be used without the airbag. Aputure’s goal is to build lighting products that make the filmmaker’s job easier.”

What we think

Aputure is continuing to improve and expand its range of lighting products for both high end productions and indie filmmakers. The new Quick Domes offer good value for money as well as saving time setting up your lights. You can also use the larger two Quick Domes with any compatible Bowens mount lights. In addition, with the new clear airbags and separate diffusion, the Infinimat series has become more versatile and flexible. It’s great to see that existing owners can update their lights with new airbags as well. If you are looking to expand your lighting arsenal, the new Aputure Quick Domes and upgraded Infinimats should be on your shortlist.

The new Quick Domes and updated Infinimats are available now. The Quick Dome 90 is $219, the Quick Dome60 is $129 and the Quick Dome 40 is $99.
