amaran launches new Go mini phone light

amaran has launched a new MagSafe-compatible mini light for content creators who use a smartphone. You can use the amaran Go with both your phone’s front and rear cameras thanks to the light’s intuitive flip design.

Compact

The amaran Go light has a compact design so it won’t make your smartphone bulky. It measures just 3.54 inches (9 cm) by 2.28 inches (5.8 cm) by 0.63 inches (1.6 cm). At only 0.19 pounds (85 g), you won’t notice the weight either. In addition, the amaran Go features MagSafe and Qi2 magnetic compatibility. This means you can quickly and easily snap it onto your smartphone. It also comes with a MagSafe Adapter Sticker so you can use it with any device.

Flip design

The versatile flip design of the amaran Go means that you can use the light with both the front and rear cameras on your smartphone. Flipped up, the light shines over the top of your smartphone while you use your selfie cam. You can also fold it back down so you can light whatever you point your phone’s main camera at. In addition, the amaran Go incorporates a makeup mirror with built-in lighting to ensure you or your talent are looking your best.

Output

The amaran Go is a bi-color light with a color temperature range from 2,700 K to 6,500 K. It also has a CRI of 97+ and a TLCI of 99 so color accuracy is assured.  It’s a tiny light designed as a fill so the power output is relatively low at 2 W for the main light and 1 W for the mirror light. However, you still get ten adjustable color temperature light modes and ten brightness settings. In addition, you can use the amaran app to dial in exact values for extra precision and control.

Battery life

Despite being so small and lightweight, the amaran Go offers an impressive runtime. At 100% output, you can run the light for up to 1 hour 21 minutes. If you drop the power down to 10%, it will last for nearly nine hours. In addition, recharging the light only takes around 70 minutes, so you won’t have to wait around long.

What we think

The amaran Go is a great new light for smartphone creators. It’s so small and lightweight that you can pop it in your pocket or purse and take it with you everywhere. The bi-color output also makes it easy to tune your fill light to the ambient lighting so your subject’s face will match perfectly. It’s not just for smartphones either. With the included adapter sticker, you can even use the amaran Go with your laptop computer for streaming or video calls. At less than thirty bucks, adding the amaran Go to your lighting arsenal makes sense for any video shooter.

Pricing and availability

The amaran Go smartphone light is available now and costs $29. You can also choose between five colors — charcoal, white, blue, pink and green.
