AJA PAK Dock Pro: 3 key features of the new media reader

AJA, a company at the center of the video capture card industry, has revealed a companion media reader for the company’s line of PAK Dock SDDs. The PAK Dock Pro comes with some great features meant to boost transfer speeds across the board.

Here’s everything new with the AJA Pak Dock Pro SSD.

AJA PAK Dock Pro supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity

The AJA PAK Dock Pro offers support for USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard via the USB-C connection. In theory, this should make transferring recorded media from PAK SSDs to your desktop or laptop much faster. According to the press release, the Pro model delivers transfer speeds up to 10Gbps — doubling the original model’s max 5Gbps transfer speeds.

In a press release, AJA claimed that users will be able to “remove the PAK media drive from the Ki Pro Ultra 12G, insert it into the PAK Dock Pro and plug the media reader into their computer via USB-C for near-instant editing, highlights creation, archiving and more.”

It’s compatible with all AJA PAK drives

Right out of the box, the PAK Pro is compatible with all AJA PAK drives. This includes the PAK 2000, PAK 1000, PAK 512 and PAK 256 and PAK drives used in legacy Ki Pro Ultra and Ki Pro Quad products.

The Pro features a compact metal construction

AJA has constructed the PAK Dock Pro with a compact metal enclosure. The SSD is at its most compact it has ever been — measuring just 11cm x 6cm x 1.5cm. This compact design makes it easy to carry around with you wherever you go. Also, its size should make it a great desktop companion since it takes up very little desk space.
